au. The Structuralist Art School in Au offers children, teenagers, and adults access to artistic activity in an amazingly simple way. Thanks to the unique technique of Structuralist Art teaching, highly independent and interesting pictures are created in a short time. Neither prior knowledge nor special talents are necessary. What is required is the enjoyment of artistic creation and the joy of colors and forms.
A popular art style
About 25 years ago, the Eastern Swiss communication analyst and artist-philosopher Felix Stoffel began to develop an art style that was explicitly intended to be popular. He was prompted to do so by his own experiences as an artist at a young age. They showed him that, especially in the visual arts, aspiration and reality strongly diverge. On the one hand, it is now possible for every person to engage in some kind of artistic activity. On the other hand, only a few people can make a living from art. “The art market has become an almost unattainable field of activity for a few, mostly well-heeled protagonists due to its speculative behavior,” says Felix Stoffel. Normal people are always excluded from this. From this point of view, Felix Stoffel founded the Structuralist concept as an art craft that is comprehensible to everyone, both pedagogically sound and socio-economically effective. The technique is based on systematically interwoven layers of color and form. As an introduction, one deals with the handling of different materials to learn their effect on painting surfaces. The handling of various types of brushes and spatulas is also regularly practiced and continuously deepened. Opaque sections, translucent areas, and ornamentally drawn patterns are processed layer by layer so that gradually individually clearly distinguishable contents crystallize. Thanks to this technique, highly independent and interesting works of astonishing quality are created in an amazingly short time. In this way, artistic work is technically systematized, making it easily learnable for children, teenagers, and adults, and offering a communicative value that goes far beyond mere pictorial design. Responsible for the Structuralist Art School Rheintal, in addition to the founder Felix Stoffel, are the artistic directors Laila Capadrutt and Sandra Zellweger.
Everything under one label
A special novelty of this long-term project is the unification of all Structuralists under a single label. While the technique is designed to specifically develop the individual personality, each work by a Structuralist can be voluntarily registered and stamped with a name code under a unified signet. This means it is subject to a regulated exhibition and an indexed distribution concept. This means that all pictures that are registered in this way are not traded speculatively. “There has been nothing comparable in art history so far,” says Stoffel. “Artist associations have always emerged, but their individuals usually tried too hard to realize themselves individually.”
