"Every human being is a Structuralist artist" This sentence by the founder of Structuralist art theory, Felix Stoffel, is based on the statement by Joseph Beuys (1921 to 1986) that everyone can be an artist. J. Beuys, who incidentally adopted his thesis from the poet Novalis (1772 to 1801), presupposed this assumption as an inherent creative principle in human beings. He formulated it as 'Social Sculpture' and thus pointed to the broadly supported social acceptance of art in modern societies.
Felix Stoffel also wanted to provide practical proof of the social aspect of art with the theoretical philosophical concept of Structuralism, which he successfully achieved with the long-term project of Structuralist art theory.
Meanwhile, there are over 2,500 registered Structuralist works by around 600 Structuralists from more than 20 nations.
Dr. Pavels Narica directs the international education center in memory of his grandfather, the writer Mihails Narica (1909-1993). It was his concern to promote artistically gifted children and young people.
In this context, Pavels Narica contacted the artistic director of the Structuralist Center, Laila Capadrutt (she coincidentally named her painting school "Narica" at the time) in 2008. This was the beginning of a now lively international exchange with numerous activities.
For example, children and young people from the German-speaking border triangle of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland participated with their Structuralist works in the competitions of the international Mihails Narica education center. Or conversely, children and young people from Latvia were invited to Structuralist workshops and excursions to the border triangle on Lake Constance.
Pavels Narica always wanted to organize an exhibition of Structuralist paintings in Rezekne. This is now excellently made possible through good contact with the director of the Lūznavas muiža Center, Ms. Iveta Balčūne.
Structuralist art theory is therefore socially significant in a socio-cultural sense because it corresponds to a popular art form that equally combines artistic, pedagogical, and psychological elements.
The method is aimed at people of all ages who enjoy creative design and at the same time want to express and exchange ideas communicatively through a growing artistic organism. And it is a timeless art style, to which any interested personality can count themselves after a short introductory phase.
The technique developed by Felix Stoffel, in which various layers of color are systematically interwoven, can be learned very quickly and thus leads directly to constructive experiences of success.
Another special feature is the common label under which Structuralist art theory appears in public. This created the possibility of a unifying registration. This is manifested in the form of an individually coded stamp on every demonstrably structurally created painting.
Structuralists who register their works (voluntarily, of course) thus identify not only with their own painting but also stand behind the entire work of all other official Structuralist artists. And this cohesion promotes social exchange.
Those interested in Structuralist art theory can acquire basic knowledge in hobby courses or even specifically train to become a professional artist. The effort for this is relatively low. There are a total of four modules, each with 60 lessons and final exams (all with certificates or diplomas). The technical contents are systematically taught as an easily learnable craft, and its theoretical foundations are interwoven throughout the practical training. Recently, the courses are also offered via online lessons!
For questions on-site, the following members of the Structuralist team will be present at the opening:
Sandra Zellweger, Information & Communication
Judith Capadrutt, Structuralist Art Dealer
We look forward to warmly welcoming you to the Structuralist exhibition and/or opening!
